Ed’s Community

Ed serves as Senior Pastor of the historic Church of the Open Door (churchoftheopendoor.com) in the Southern California city of Glendora. Known around the world for its dedication to the Word of God and the Gospel of Christ, Church of the Open Door is a community of followers of Jesus Christ committed to equipping believers to discover and fulfill God’s purposes for their lives. Since 1996, Ed has led Church of the Open Door, or COD, in a pioneering direction that stays true to its biblical roots, but with a renewed emphasis on building authentic community through layered disciplemaking relationships. Discipleship is Christian talk for mentoring.

Ed’s Ministry

Ed loves to help others see God’s eternal vision for their personal lives. “I did not grow up in a Christian home,” Ed says. “This has marked me with a deep appreciation of the Lord’s power to transform lives, families and cultures. When Jesus Christ steps in, nothing should be the same.” Convinced that the world is changed by Christian leaders who trust God enough to unleash His power in others, Church of the Open Door serves this purpose by maximizing the potential of every believer in Jesus Christ. “Our promise to everyone who walks into the door of our fellowship is, ‘We’ll take you as far as you want to go.’”

Ed’s Background

Ed grew up in California, and served as a firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service and as an officer in the United States Army. He is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara and Dallas Theological Seminary. He and wife, Judy, have three grown children who walk with God and seven grandchildren they spoil without apology.
